Elevate Your Fitness Studio: Why Owners Should Attend an In-Person Course

Stepping outside of your box is key to long term growth

As a boutique fitness studio owner, you're not just running a business; you're cultivating a community, fostering personal growth, and inspiring transformation in the lives of your clients. This is heartfelt, yet challenging work! Yet, in the ever-evolving landscape of business, keeping it thriving requires more than just passion and dedication. It demands continuous learning, stepping outside of your comfort zone on the daily, networking, and more. That's where attending an in-person business course focused on connection, inspiration, and expert strategies becomes invaluable.

I stumbled my way into my first “business intensive course” in 2006 and have participated in over 70+ business courses so far in my life and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Never mind my addiction to yoga teacher trainings and active mindfulness retreats. Every single time I walk away better than I arrived. The ideas are aplenty and I have so much gratitude for the space to consider what is really working and what isn’t in my business - and life. I’m grateful for the like-minded listening ears and perspectives that are frankly hard to find in day-to-day studio life or on the interwebs.

Here are the most compelling reasons why I highly recommend that fitness studio owners prioritize attending an in person, fit biz course of some kind annually:

Forge Meaningful Connections

Fit biz friends are the best friends

Post covid-19 and knee deep in the digital age, face-to-face interactions are often undervalued in my book. However, there's immense power in connecting with fellow fit biz professionals, exchanging ideas, and building a supportive network. An in-person business course provides a perfect environment to forge meaningful connections with like-minded individuals who share your passion for fitness and business success. These connections can lead to collaborations, mentorships, and lifelong friendships that enrich both your personal and professional life. Your next business bestie is out there waiting for you!

Draw Inspiration from Experts

One of the most significant benefits of attending a business course is the opportunity to learn from industry veterans who have tons of experience and a variety of success under their belts. Whether it's a renowned fitness entrepreneur, a marketing guru, or a business strategist, expert speakers bring invaluable insights and get you to think outside of your box. They share real-world experiences and bring actionable advice to the table. Their stories of triumphs, failures, and lessons learned will inspire you to think differently, innovate more, and pursue your goals with renewed vigor.

Gain Proven Strategies

Sharing is caring between fit biz friends

Running a successful fitness studio requires more than just passion; it demands sound business acumen, strategic thinking and next level stamina. An in-person business course offers access to proven strategies and best practices that have been tested and refined by experts in the field. From effective marketing tactics and client retention strategies to operational efficiencies and financial management tips, you'll gain practical insights that you can implement immediately to elevate your studio's performance and profitability. These strategies are simply not taught at business school and are only learned by doing the hard work of showing up over and over again, day in and day out, and being dedicated to learning and growing.

Immerse Yourself in a Growth Mindset

Attending a business course isn't just about acquiring knowledge; it's about taking the space to embrace a growth mindset that propels you forward on your entrepreneurial journey. Surrounding yourself with motivated individuals who are committed to personal and professional development creates an environment conducive to growth, innovation, and vibrancy. By immersing yourself in a culture of continuous learning and improvement, you'll challenge yourself to set better goals, overcome obstacles, and unlock your full potential as a studio owner and leader. It’s so easy to get in stuck in your own habitual patterns, especially without a direct boss calling you out on your junk. It can be hugely transformative to step out of your comfort zone and be open to others experiences and insights.

Stay Ahead of Industry Trends

Maybe the changes won’t hurt so bad if we think about them a bit in advance

The fitness industry is constantly evolving, with new trends, technologies, and consumer preferences shaping the landscape. To stay ahead of the never ending curves, it's essential to stay informed and adaptable. An in-person business course provides the space to explore emerging trends, discuss industry shifts, and anticipate future opportunities and challenges. By staying abreast of the latest developments and innovations, you can position your studio for longevity and vitality.

Conclusion

I love talking fit biz, even in run of the mill conference room settings

In today's ever competitive fit biz landscape, continuous learning and strategic planning are essential for optimizing long term success. And frankly, it might just help minimize those growing pains just a bit. Attending an in-person business course that focuses on connection, inspiration, and proven strategies from expert speakers offers a unique opportunity to elevate you and your fitness studio community to new heights. By forging meaningful connections, drawing inspiration from industry leaders, gaining proven strategies, embracing a growth mindset, and staying ahead of industry trends, you'll position yourself for long-term success and make a lasting impact on the lives of your clients. Don't miss out on this transformative experience – invest in yourself and your business today!

BONUS Upcoming Courses I Recommend

I highly recommend participating in a course with someone from your network, be that a technical partner, friend, or colleague, or perhaps there is a physical place that you feel drawn to. I care less about the course topics per say and more about the heart of the person or organization leading it. The act of taking space to process, download, and get inspired and renewed is essential. I have been surprised by the amount of inspiration I get showing up to events I thought wouldn’t be right for me by bringing an open, receptive mind. I personally try to attend at least one business inspiration course per year (along with the several personal growth courses I participate in).

Fitdegree Owner Summit is an event exclusively for studios on the FitDEGREE platform to help studio leaders get inspired, connected, and renewed. It has a great lineup of speakers (cough, cough, me + friends!) and is in a beautiful spot outside of Atlanta, GA. I am super excited for this small scale, high quality event.

Health & Fitness Association (Formerly IHRSA) hosts a huge conference event for the fitness industry in San Diego, California every spring. I like using this as a platform to meet new people and connect with old fit biz friends. It’s a big conference, so going with a plan ahead of time is helpful here.

IDEAfit has conferences in Chicago and Los Angeles, California lined up for 2024 and has been hosting education events for over 40 years.

Don’t forget the more industry specific events like the Yoga Expo and the Pilates Method Alliance Events for inspiration. I’m hoping to see more of these types of events come back post covid.

Software hosted events are starting to resurface again post covid. Join me on instagram if you want up to date info on events I’m involved with or reach out.
