In the retention challenged landscape of boutique fitness and yoga studios, finding quick and effective marketing strategies is a great way to stay on top of connecting with new customers, especially when things are feeling stagnant and dusty. Here are some actionable tips that can bring immediate results without requiring a hefty investment. These are the strategies that got me and my clients the most bang for our buck through the years so I always start here.

Instructions: Click here (or button above) for a google doc version of this checklist (go to File > Make a Copy) to have your own editable version to play with and check off as you complete tasks. Anyone else just love checking those boxes?

Word of Mouth

Do at least one new thing to more proactively encourage word of mouth. Word of mouth is not a passive part of your marketing, it’s something that can and should be more actively encouraged.

    • Pass out refer a friend cards to members.

    • Implement automated rewards system.

    • Confirm word of mouth referral tracking.

New Customers

Review and improve your new customer journey to ensure that the newest clients immediately get what they are looking for, feel seen, heard, and connected.

    • In Studio.

    • Online via website.

    • Mobile website experience.

    • Biz software. Think contact info, referral categories, required fields, etc.

    • Are you getting essential info 1: how did you hear?

    • Are you getting essential info 2: biggest reason for visiting?

Intro Offer

Are you offering an option that is just for new clients? Make sure it’s more than one visit and up to a month. These have much better retention.

  • Stop or don’t pay/bonus instructors for intro offer students.

  • Confirm / create a call to action for intro offer new students on top area of landing page.

  • Lead with your intro offer for any and all future marketing campaigns.

Signage

Is signage optimized for your location? Can you do one thing to make your biz stand out better? Get creative here and don’t let city limitations or grumpy landlords stop you. Think sandwich board, grass signs, or postcards in your neighborhood.

Digital Marketing with Social Media

  • Double down on one platform. It’s better to do one social media platform well, that matches with your customers demographic, age range, and preferences rather than doing a bunch half heartedly.

  • Google My Biz. Claim and optimize your Google My Business listing. Encourage satisfied clients to leave reviews, which can boost your local search visibility.

  • Review & repeat most successful social post of last 90d.

  • Include location and intro offer in all platform bios.

  • Make plan to create & use more video.

  • Stop / don’t boost posts! If feeling compelled, invest in a paid campaign featuring your intro offer and see if it helps. Be very specific with location and interest targeting.

  • Create a social marketing calendar and stick to it. Here is a sample template if you need one. Get your team involved in this.

Digital Marketing with Website

Start by performing a website audit for user friendly, images, calls to action, and useful biz information. Most websites I look at could do better with real life, client images, more calls to action, and especially featuring the intro offer on the landing page.

  • Improve or create an intro offer / new to us landing page.

  • (Use widgets to) Include more Buy Now / Sign Up Now buttons.

  • Create or confirm your “Thank you for purchasing” landing page.

  • Update your default welcome email & communications.

  • Automate a follow up communication for new clients beyond first visit.

Marketing Planning

Create or edit existing marketing plan to focus on above for next 90 day. I love hubspot for marketing plan inspiration.

✋High Five!

Marketing to prospective customers can feel like an overwhelming, never ending task. Implementing these quick wins can help enhance your studio’s visibility, communicate better with new customers, and foster your soulful community. Baby steps is the name of the marketing game. You. Got. This!
